Africa Operations Unit Head – FMCG

Our client is a leading local FMCG and looking for a senior operations leader for the Africa market.

Job Description:
  • Lead overall business performance across multiple African markets to achieve revenue, profitability, and market share targets.
  • Develop and execute country growth strategies aligned with regional business objectives.
  • Identify new market, channel, category, and business expansion opportunities within the FMCG sector.
  • Build and maintain strong owner-to-owner relationships with distributors, business partners, and key trade stakeholders.
  • Lead Joint Business Planning (JBP) to ensure strategic alignment, execution excellence, and performance tracking.
  • Drive operational discipline and execution excellence across multiple countries through structured KPI management and governance.
  • Monitor market execution and proactively resolve operational and commercial bottlenecks.
  • Lead and manage geographically dispersed teams across African markets, including internal teams and external partners.
  • Coach and develop teams to improve capabilities, accountability, and execution standards.
  • Conduct regular market visits to gather market intelligence, assess trade execution, and identify emerging trends and opportunities.
  • Recommend scalable commercial initiatives, route-to-market improvements, and portfolio expansion opportunities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to drive innovation and sustainable business growth.
Qualifications:
  • 12–15 years of FMCG experience with significant exposure to multiple African markets.
  • Proven track record managing sizeable multi-country businesses across Africa.
  • Strong commercial and operational leadership experience in complex regional environments.
  • Strong expertise in distributor management, route-to-market execution, and commercial partnerships.
  • Deep understanding of African market dynamics, consumer behavior, and cultural diversity.
  • Strong stakeholder management and owner-to-owner engagement capabilities.
  • Experience leading Joint Business Planning (JBP), execution tracking, and performance management.
  • Strong remote team leadership and cross-functional management skills.
  • Highly analytical, execution-oriented, and hands-on leadership style.
  • Strong field orientation with willingness to travel extensively across African markets.
  • Fluent in English; French proficiency is highly preferred.
  • Willingness to be based in Africa (Kenya / Ghana / South Africa preferred).
