Africa New Business Senior Key Account Manager – FMCG

Our client is a leading local FMCG company, looking for a strong key account leader for new Africa market expansion.

Job Description:
  • Drive new business development and market expansion across East & Southern Africa.
  • Identify and develop opportunities with distributors, retailers, wholesalers, and strategic partners.
  • Develop country-specific go-to-market strategies to increase market penetration and sales growth.
  • Explore white-space opportunities, category expansion, and emerging FMCG consumer trends.
  • Manage key accounts and build strong long-term relationships with distributors and trade partners.
  • Lead owner-to-owner engagement, commercial negotiations, and annual business planning.
  • Drive Joint Business Planning (JBP) to ensure alignment on sales targets, execution priorities, and growth plans.
  • Monitor distributor performance, KPIs, and execution excellence across distribution, visibility, and promotions.
  • Conduct regular market visits to gather market intelligence, understand trade dynamics, and strengthen customer relationships.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support operational excellence and business continuity.
  • Deliver sales, volume, and profitability targets across assigned markets.
Qualifications:
  • 8–12 years of FMCG experience, preferably in regional or multi-country roles.
  • Proven experience in new business development, key account management, and distributor management across African markets.
  • Strong exposure to East and/or Southern African markets is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of route-to-market development, trade execution, and commercial negotiations.
  • Strong commercial acumen with ability to identify and convert business opportunities.
  • Experience in Joint Business Planning (JBP), execution tracking, and performance management.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Comfortable working independently across geographically dispersed markets.
  • Willing to be based in South Africa or Kenya, and highly field-oriented with willingness to travel extensively across East & Southern Africa.
  • Fluent in English; additional African regional language(s) are an advantage.
